The Ontario Court of Appeal has confirmed that an online newspaper is a “newspaper” within the meaning of the Ontario Libel and Slander Act, attracting the same libel notice and short limitation period protections as a print newspaper article.

The Court also rejected the argument that the “multiple publication rule” means that each day of online publication grounds a fresh cause of action.
