Jiang v. Sing Tao Daily and Hai Tao Li, 2014 ONSC 287

The article, published in a Chinese-language weekly newspaper, related to a fund-raising event being held as a result of the 2008 earthquake in Sichuan province.

Jiang was a principle organizer of the event and the article raised questions about the sources and amount of money raised.

The Defendants were found not to have defamed Jiang. Additionally, Stewart J. agreed that the contents of the article were substantially true, constituted fair comment on a matter of public interest, and constituted reasonable communication on a matter of public interest.
