A partner at Pearlman Lindholm, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. He graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Victoria in 1992. Mr. Scherr was called to the British Columbia Bar in 1993 and commenced practice as an associate with Pearlman Lindholm thereafter. Michael Scherr has a broad litigation practice with an emphasis on media, commercial and estate litigation. He has been counsel on many cases dealing with freedom of expression, libel, freedom of information, access to the courts and publication bans.

In the media area specifically, Mr Scherr has represented numerous parties, and frequently argues newsgathering issues, such as publication bans, access to courts and other hearings, protection of confidential sources and access to information, search warrants and subpoenas. He also lectures at the Victoria School of Journalism and the University of Victoria.

He has successfully argued cases before the Provincial Court of British Columbia; the Supreme Court of British Columbia, the British Columbia Court of Appeal, the Federal Court of Canada (copyright, trademark and passing off cases), the Ontario Superior Court and the Superior Court of Wayne County, Michigan, U.S.A. (cross border estates issues). Mr. Scherr has also appeared before numerous tribunals, including the Labour Relations Board; the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal, the Workers’ Compensation Review Board and the Workers’ Compensation Appeal Tribunal.
